New Year is that time of the year again, when you are probably getting ready for a day of splurging and feasting with your loved ones. People all over the world look forward to this day, to bid adieu to the current year, and welcoming in the next one. Usually you see a splendid display of fireworks and glittery explosions, lightings and the other bells and whistles distinct to any New Year celebration. While sending a Happy New Year card to your friends, you probably never would have thought to smash some utensils or eat grapes to celebrate the day, did you? There are a bunch of traditions and methods of celebrating New Year, apart from the common ones we see during ours.

Over time, people from around the world have adapted New Year celebrations and New Year wishes greetings to suit their customs and rituals. Here are some of the unique traditions in celebrating New Year you can find around the world:

1)      Edinburgh’s Hogmanay:

In the capital of Scotland, people celebrate New Year’s eve for over three days, all over the country. One tradition unique to their land is to create a “rive of fire” to signify the coming of New Year. Around 7 to 10 thousand-strong revelers march down the streets to Calton Hill, carrying flaming torches and wearing traditional costumes. They are accompanied by pipers and drummers who then lead them to a social gathering filled with music and dancing.

2)      Denmark’s Plate-Smashing Success:

Usually, you would send happy New Year messages to your friends, meet up with your family and have a dinner to celebrate. You won’t however, go up to their house with utensils to throw and smash against their doors would you? Well, in Denmark, you’d be doing just that. As a New Year tradition, the people go around their neighborhoods, and chuck glasses and dishes at the doors of their families and friends. The more shards of utensils present at your door, the more loved and famous you are.

3)      Brazil’s Seven-Waves Hurdle:

The people of Brazil have adapted their celebrations over the years to include a tradition in the Sea. A local tradition, dictates that for you to have good luck this New Year, you should jump over seven oncoming waves. For better chances, you are recommended to do this while wearing white and offering up a bouquet of flowers.

4)      Spain’s Grape-Eating Craze:

The Chinese wish each other Happy New Year in Chinese on the eve, and make merry. The Spanish, eat grapes. During New Year in Spain, one of the unique traditions is to eat 12 grapes, eating one during each stroke of midnight. This isn’t as easy as it sounds, but if you do it correctly, it’s said to bring you a year of prosperity and happiness.

These are some of the various kinds of unique New Year traditions that are celebrated each year, in different parts of the world. You can find out the New Year Traditions celebrated in your country and localities on your own if you’re interested in methods other than the usual feasting and dancing.

The first ever outline for what could have been termed as the earliest form of software was conceptualized by Ada Lovelace in the year 1842 for the Analytical Engine. The Analytical Engine was termed as the first ever proposed mechanical computer for general purposes. The theory of the Analytical Engine was penned by the English mathematician Charles Babbage. However, neither the

Analytical Engine was ever created, nor got any software for it ever implemented. Earlier to the creation of computers as they are recognized by us today, the first ever theory in regards to a software was documented by Alan Matheson Turing in the year of 1935 in one of his  Essays. This event paved the way to the evolution of twin academic fields namely “Computer Science” and “Software Engineering”. While the former focuses on the study of its software, the latter focuses on its creation.

Claude Shannon, in one of his manuscripts titled “A Mathematical Theory of Communication (1916-2001) recorded an outline in regards to the implementation of Binary Logic for programming a computer. Binary Codes were used by early computer programmers to instruct the computer to store the data that was required. However, the process in itself was quite arduous. The programmers were required to feed information, flick switches and punch holes in cards and load them onto the computers mechanically.

Every year, right around Christmas, people start getting ready for New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve is one of, if not, the most highly celebrated occasion around the world. Unlike other festivals that can’t transcend borders and religions, New Year is present in every country, among every community. Days pass by; run into weeks and months, yet this one single day that signals the change of year is the most significant one throughout the world. There are many like you who wonder where to go on New Years Eve. Some go out on dinner dates with friends, to parties and clubbing, some choose to meet and spend time with their family and relatives. Whatever the scenario turns out to be, a mode of celebration in each of them is evident. The main question that remains to be answered, is why?
For novices, the celebration part is quite obvious; just like any anniversary-bound even like a birthday or a marriage anniversary, a chronological celebration is a must. You must have already formed some good New Years Eve party ideas to engage with your close ones. Despite what you may be already prepared for, you should realize why this celebration is so important to you.

Why Do People celebrate New Year around the World?
1.      Psychological Reasons:
One of the prime aspect that influences people’s New Year celebrations is the Psychological aspect of it. Every New Year signifies how one made it through 365 days of the previous year, all the ups and downs of it and more. Usually this fact alone matters a lot since people sometimes struggle with certain parts of their life, whether it’s a job, their marriage, financial status and other such stuff.

2.      Superstitions and Customs:
If you look at New Year around the world, you’ll find how there are different customs and rituals that are celebrated when it comes to New Years. From the Greeks baking a special cake with a coin inside, or the Dutch who eat round foods like donuts, there are dozens of different customs that are meant to induce good luck in their New Year. These rituals are sometimes unique to that region; however one can find similar customs in many different places.

3.      Resolutions:
Resolutions are basically promises and goals that you set for yourselves at the beginning of every New Year. You may already have thought of some for your New Year celebration 2020. However, from an earlier study, surveys conclude that people find it very hard to achieve their resolutions, to achieve their goals. This is because when you make a New Year resolution, being confident isn’t just enough; you would have to actively work towards it.
These are some thoughts that you can ponder upon before you engage in deciding where to go on New Years Eve. Religious people pray regularly for a better year than before, since the thought of an omnipotent force looking over you is all the much better and safer. As a result, many even aim to be good and behave well with everyone they know in their life.

Amazing Christmas Traditions from Different Countries and Regions

Christmas, which was originally celebrated as a Christian, traditional festival has experienced a lot of diversity and change over the years. People celebrate Christmas in their own special way and this has given rise to entirely new methods and ways over the many years. This beautiful festival can be called as the time in the year when everyone is cheerful and happy with each other without any bickering or fights. People can be seen writing Christmas wishes for best friend and family. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise how Christmas, apart from some core concepts, is celebrated differently in other regions and countries.

3 Amazing and Quirky ways Christmas is celebrated in Different Countries and Regions:
1.      In Ukraine and Russia:
The Christmas celebration in Russia and Ukraine is quite different than that of other countries. Here, you’ll find that people celebrate Christmas in January, on the 7th instead of 25th December. This is mainly because their Church uses the ‘Julian’ calendar, which is an old, orthodox calendar for marking and celebrating any religious festival.

People take the time leading up to the 7th, to fast and share positive Christmas quotes with families and friends. Then, they break the fast on the 6th of January when the evening star appears in the sky. You can then join them in enjoying a 12-course dinner that they have, honoring the 12 apostles of Christ.

2.      Sweden’s Goat Tradition:
In a town called Gavle in Sweden, the people erect a giant goat that is made of straw when the Christmas season arrives. This is of deep significance and has become a ritual that has spanned over 4 decades. Whenever the goat is erected, there are guardians appointed to it, since there’s an unofficial tradition of burning down the goat before Christmas day. People will try all means necessary to slip past them and ignite this traditional, 40-foot goat made of straw.

3.      The Strange Foods of Greenland:
You are normally accustomed to lavish, home-made or restaurant meals on the day of Christmas; sharing your Christmas memories quotes with those present at the table. However, Greenland has a rather unorthodox approach to the food that is prepared for Christmas. One such food that they prepare is the “Kiviak” and another one is called a “Mattak”.

The Kiviak is essentially, the raw flesh of an Auk that has been considerably decomposed over several months, wrapped in seal skin. Mattak is the skin of a whale that is cut up and served, containing blubber. Foods like these are essential to their Christmas and considered as a delicacy by the people.
These are some of the vast number of quirky and amazing Christmas traditions that people from all over the world celebrate. So now, you have some inspiration for the next time you are stuck writing some inspirational or Christmas motivational quotes. You can switch up your celebration by citing or even partaking in any of these traditions that you find interesting.
